Job summary

Violence Intervention Program in NYC seeks a Counselor Advocate to provide trauma-informed counseling, case management, advocacy, and crisis intervention to survivors pursuing safety and stability. The role requires building trusting relationships and navigating complex systems with compassion.

Based in Manhattan with travel to Queens, this full-time, non-exempt position offers a hybrid work arrangement, competitive pay, generous benefits, and opportunities to contribute to supportive services

Qualifications

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
• Experience supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
• Ability to navigate complex systems with compassion and sound judgment.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed case management and supportive counseling, including needs assessments, service plans, and safety planning.
• Advocate for survivors navigating legal, immigration, housing, public benefits, education, healthcare, and other systems.
• Connect survivors with resources through referrals and accompaniment.
• Maintain accurate case notes, reports, and documentation while protecting privacy.
• Facilitate bilingual support groups and participate in outreach and trainings as needed.
• Collaborate with VIP staff and external providers; participate in supervision and case conferences.
• Follow mandated reporting requirements and provide program coverage in Manhattan or Queens as needed.
