Job summary

SER Metro-Detroit is seeking a Part-Time Career Specialist to assess participants' job readiness and connect them with employment opportunities in Detroit.

You will interview participants, develop individualized career plans, coordinate job search activities, and conduct job readiness workshops. You will maintain MIS records and collaborate with employers and service providers to support participant success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a human services, related field or equivalent experience in Employment and Training Programs.
• One to two years of experience in recruitment, employment, training, marketing or a related field.
• Bilingual language skills in English/Spanish.
• Interpersonal skills to communicate with employers and participants.
• Computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint; familiarity with MIS/documentation.
• Able to handle pressure and meet placement goals.
• Flexible schedule and valid Michigan Driver's License with reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Interviews participants to assess service needs.
• Develops a career plan with the participant identifying interests, goals, needs and placement strategy.
• Identifies gaps and ensures implementation of the career plan.
• Assesses job readiness and recommends strategies to improve marketability.
• Identifies and secures employment opportunities matching participant skills and interests.
• Participates in job search events and promotes teamwork and customer satisfaction.
• Conducts job readiness workshops (resume writing, interview techniques, workplace conduct).
• Performs employment verification and maintenance activities, including visits and calls.
• Maintains program records and MIS documentation.
• Provides career coaching and liaises between customers, service providers and employers.
• Manages a comprehensive caseload and supports policy/procedure updates.
