Job summary

Redwood Materials seeks a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Electrical Design Engineer to join our EPC team. This role leads electrical design for utility-scale BESS projects from concept sizing and layout through construction, interfacing with utilities and ISO/RTOs to support interconnection studies and permitting.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited electrical engineering degree required.
• Nevada PE license or eligible and able to obtain in 2 months.
• Minimum 5 years in solar/energy storage with 3+ years in BESS design.
• Expertise in interconnection/regulatory compliance for BESS.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for utility-scale BESS projects from concept to construction.
• Interface with utilities and ISO/RTOs for interconnection studies and submittals.
• Serve as SME for BESS technical challenges and design reviews.
• Design AC/DC systems (MV transformers, inverters, DC combiners, energy managers, battery modules) and specify long-lead AC equipment.
• Develop schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring plans, and protection strategies.
• Coordinate with civil/SCADA/fire/geotechnical teams to produce IFC packages and specs.
• Ensure NEC 705/706, IEEE 1547, UL 9540, NFPA 855 compliance; lead code reviews.
