Job summary

Redwood Materials is recruiting a Staff BESS Electrical Design Engineer for our EPC team. You’ll design utility-scale energy storage systems, size concepts, and interface with utilities to support interconnection studies, permitting, and compliance.

You will develop AC/DC layouts, specify long-lead equipment, and guide project teams through construction. Ideal candidates have 5+ years in solar/storage, strong knowledge of NEC 705/706, IEEE 1547, UL 9540, and NFPA 855, with PE licensure in Nevada

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited program.
Licensed Professional Engineer in Nevada or eligible for reciprocity; must obtain Nevada PE within 2 months and then South Carolina PE.
Minimum 5 years in solar, energy storage, or microgrid sectors with 3+ years on BESS design/deployment.
Proven interconnection and regulatory compliance experience for BESS systems.
Subject matter expert in NEC 705/706, IEEE 1547, UL 9540, NFPA 855.

Responsibilities

Lead electrical engineering efforts for utility-scale BESS projects from concept through construction.
Interface with utilities and ISO/RTOs for interconnection studies, permitting, and compliance.
Serve as SME for technical challenges related to BESS and coordinate with multi-discipline teams.
Design AC/DC electrical systems, specify long-lead equipment, and develop schematics and one-line diagrams.
Perform power system studies (short circuit, load flow, arc flash) and act as Electrical Engineer of Record.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal standards and cost/schedule tracking.
