Job summary

Redwood Materials in Sparks, Nevada, is seeking a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Electrical Design Engineer for our EPC team to design scalable energy storage infrastructure for utility-scale and distributed applications.

Join a mission to build a sustainable circular economy for lithium-ion batteries, with leadership in interconnection studies, NEC/NFPA compliance, and integration of BESS with grid infrastructure. PE in Nevada preferred, 5+ years in solar/storage.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• PE license in Nevada or eligible; must obtain within 2 months.
• Minimum 5 years in solar/energy storage or microgrids; 3+ on BESS.
• Expertise in interconnection and regulatory compliance for BESS.
• Knowledge of NEC 705, 706, IEEE 1547, UL 9540, NFPA 855.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for utility-scale BESS from concept to construction.
• Interface with utilities and ISO/RTOs for interconnection studies.
• Serve as SME for BESS technical challenges.
• Design AC/DC systems with MV transformers, inverters, and BMS.
• Develop schematics, one-lines, and grounding plans.
• Coordinate with civil/SCADA/other teams to produce IFC specs.
• Ensure designs comply with NEC 705/706, IEEE 1547, NFPA 855.
• Perform power system studies (short-circuit, load flow, arc flash).
• Maintain knowledge of BESS tech trends.
• Mentor junior engineers; QA/QC of electrical designs.
