Job summary

Air Line Pilots Association, International, Tysons (McLean), Virginia, seeks a Benefits Specialist to collaborate with the R&I team on life, health, dental, disability, and Section 125 plans.

The role requires 5+ years in employee benefits, strong knowledge of ERISA and tax codes, and excellent communication skills to support MEC bodies and negotiations. Occasional travel 10–20% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Pre-Law, or related field from an accredited college or university.
• Five (5) years of experience working in employee benefits.
• Working knowledge of retirement and welfare benefits design and operation.
• Working knowledge of ERISA, ACA, FMLA, HIPAA, and Internal Revenue Code.
• Ability to interpret benefit laws, policies, and processes.
• Airline and/or union experience a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, oral and written.
• CEBS/Paralegal certification preferred but not required.
• PHR and/or SPHR SHRM certifications a plus.
• Software: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support on benefit issues to the R&I staff and pilot representatives.
• Draft and review benefit communications for MEC publications.
• Prepare quarterly R&I newsletters for distribution.
• Assist in retirement, insurance, and welfare benefit proposals for negotiations.
• Train R&I pilot committee members at benefits training events and seminars.
• Provide technical assistance to Labor Relations Counsels; act as in-house consultant on benefit matters.
• Stay current on employee benefits trends and legislation.
