Job summary

Air Line Pilots Association, International, Tysons (McLean), VA, seeks a Benefits Specialist to support group life, health, dental, disability, and Section 125 plans. You will work with the Retirement & Insurance team to assist MEC bodies, draft communications, and prepare proposals for negotiations.

The role requires a bachelor's degree and 5 years in employee benefits, with knowledge of ERISA, ACA, FMLA and tax code. Travel 10–20% and a strong team orientation are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Pre-Law or related field from an accredited college or university is required
• Five (5) years of experience working in employee benefits required
• Knowledge of design and operation of retirement and welfare benefits
• Knowledge of ERISA, ACA, FMLA, HIPAA, and Internal Revenue Code applicable to retirement and welfare benefits
• Ability to interpret benefit laws, policies and processes
• Airline and/or union experience a plus
• Certification as Employee Benefits Paralegal or CEBS preferred but not required
• PHR and/or SPHR SHRM certifications a plus
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, oral and written
• Team player mindset
• Proficiency in MS Office suite

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with Benefits Specialists, Benefits Attys, and Retirement & Insurance team
• Provide technical support on benefit issues and review benefit plan documents
• Draft and review benefit-related communications for MEC publications
• Prepare quarterly R&I newsletters
• Assist in retirement, insurance, and welfare benefit proposals for negotiations
• Participate in training of R&I pilot committee members by presenting at benefits training events
• Provide technical assistance to Labor Relations Counsels
• May act as in-house consultant on benefit-related matters
• Stay current with trends and legislation in employee benefits
