Job summary

Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) seeks an experienced Benefits Specialist for our Tysons (McLean), Virginia office. The role collaborates with the R&I team to support pilot governing bodies on life, health, dental, disability, and Section 125 plans, while drafting communications and newsletters.

The successful candidate will have a strong benefits background, ERISA knowledge, and the ability to present training to MEC members.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, HR, Pre-Law or related field.
• Five (5) years of experience in employee benefits.
• Working knowledge of retirement and welfare benefits.
• Knowledge of ERISA, ACA, FMLA, HIPAA and Internal Revenue Code.
• Ability to interpret benefit laws, policies, and processes.
• Airline and/or union experience a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, oral and written.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
• CEBS/Employee Benefits Paralegal preferred; PHR/SPHR a plus.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with R&I team to support pilot governing bodies on employee benefits matters.
• Provide technical support on benefit issues to staff and pilot representatives.
• Draft and review benefit communications and newsletters.
• Prepare retirement, insurance, and welfare benefit proposals for negotiations.
• Present benefits training to MEC committees and pilots.
• Assist Labor Relations Counsels with benefit-related matters as needed.
• Act as in-house consultant on benefit-related issues.
