Position Summary

The HR/Benefits Specialist supports human resources operations, including Health and Company Benefits, Leaves of Absence, and Engagement initiatives. This role involves interacting with a wide range of employees and partners to provide excellent customer service and ensure sound judgment regarding company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Serve as a primary resource for employee questions related to benefits, leaves of absences, engagement initiatives, and HR programs.
  2. Be a Subject Matter Expert on company benefit plans and leave of absences; provide clear, honest, and accurate explanations and recommendations.
  3. Manage benefits administration activities such as open enrollment, new hire orientation, COBRA, and related communications and training.
  4. Process new employee enrollments and update existing benefits due to life events.
  5. Address employee benefits issues, collaborating with the HR Director and benefits broker on resolutions.
  6. Evaluate and handle requests for Leaves of Absence and ADA accommodations, managing all related communication and documentation.
  7. Provide a supportive and comprehensive leave of absence experience, utilizing various tools for management and communication.
  8. Support timely and accurate processing of timecards.
  9. Analyze HR data from HRIS and Excel to support benefits administration and other HR initiatives, identifying trends and ensuring data accuracy.
  10. Manage employment verification requests, ensuring confidentiality and prompt responses.
  11. Oversee Workers’ Compensation claims, including incident report completion and submission of OSHA forms.
  12. Coordinate remote work and return-to-office transitions.
  13. Participate in organizational communications and employee engagement efforts, including company events and recognition programs.
  14. Assist in planning and executing charitable initiatives and community partnerships.
  15. Interpret and apply HR policies and ensure compliance with federal laws such as ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, and ADA.
  16. Support the HR team as needed and exercise independent judgment and discretion.
  17. Perform other duties as required.

Requirements & Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or related field.
  2. 2-4 years of experience in HR support functions.
  3. Experience with benefit administration is required.
  4. Leave of absence experience is preferred.
  5. SHRM-CP or PHR certification is highly recommended.
  6. Proficiency in MS Office and HRIS systems.
  7. Regular and predictable attendance.
