Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Benefits Manager in our Human Resources Total Rewards team.
The Benefits Manager – North America is responsible for the strategic oversight and operational management of employee benefit programs across the United States, Canada, and Bermuda. Reporting to the AVP, North America, this role supports the AVP in ensuring the design, compliance, administration, and communication of health, welfare, and retirement programs align with local regulations and corporate objectives. The ideal candidate has deep regional expertise, strong vendor and stakeholder management skills, and experience implementing process improvements and employee engagement strategies. This role will supervise the work of a Senior Benefits Analyst.

What you’ll be doing:
Oversight of all aspects of benefits in the US, Canada, and Bermuda (including retirement plans)
Oversee the day-to-day administration of benefit and retirement plans
Maintain the highest standards of customer service within the benefits department, ensuring exceptional support and satisfaction for all employees and stakeholders
Leverage relationships with insurance broker(s), insurance carriers, and vendors to successfully deliver services to customers
Manage full cycle benefits renewal, and planning and execution of annual benefits open enrollment
Collaborate with HRIS to set up and maintain benefit plan information, enrollments, reporting, and data integrity in HRIS ensuring confidentiality and accuracy for payroll processing, benefits administration, and compliance requirements
Partner with AVP, North America on all benefit projects to include implementations and vendor RFPs
Ensure continuous benefit audits and reconciliation, and proper processing of all benefit invoices
Manage activities for internal and external audits, and annual compliance (ACA, 5500, state requirements) notices, forms, and filings; coordinate activities and deliverables between internal and external partners and carriers to ensure accuracy and on-time delivery
Knowledge of FMLA and disability administration with third party administrator
Supervise and train Benefits Analyst on responsibilities necessary to the successful execution of back-office benefits administration
Liaise with payroll to ensure accurate processing of benefit related deductions and imputed income
Other duties as needed
Compliance & Administration
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, and other relevant laws
Manage all reporting requirements, including regulatory filings and audits
Support benefits-related investigations, appeals, and policy development to maintain compliance and risk mitigation
Responsible for addressing escalations from the HR service center
Developing and delivering training for the Tier 1 service center team members
Employee Engagement & Communication
What you’ll bring:
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Minimum of 5-7 years related experience in US Benefits Administration
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Proficient in H&W and retirement plan implementation, administration, and project management
Experience working for a multi-state or global workforce
Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation)
Familiarity with managing in benefits in Bermuda and Canada (helpful, but not required)
Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
