Job summary

Wake County Public School System seeks an Exceptional Children teacher to coordinate direct instructional programs for students with IEPs and ensure compliance with applicable laws. This role emphasizes teamwork, instructional adaptation, and ongoing progress monitoring.

The candidate will develop and implement IEPs, employ varied instructional strategies, and participate in IEP meetings to support student learning and safety within the district.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
• Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in an Exceptional Children’s teaching area.
• Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to NC requirements.
• First Aid and CPR certifications preferred.
• CPI certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops and updates IEPs for students with disabilities.
• Implements instructional strategies and progress monitoring for specially designed instruction.
• Assists students in completing curriculum tasks and IEP goals.
• Employs diverse teaching methods and adapts materials to student needs.
• Monitors student behavior and maintains classroom discipline.
• Evaluates student progress and coordinates progress report and grades.
• Attends IEP meetings as a collaborative team member.
