Job summary

Wake County Public School System in Raleigh, NC is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to coordinate and provide direct instructional programs for students with IEPs. You will monitor and evaluate services, maintain confidentiality, and ensure compliance with FERPA and all relevant laws and guidelines.

Responsibilities include developing and implementing IEPs, employing varied instructional strategies, monitoring progress, collaborating with staff and families, and participating in IEP

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of instructional practices for specially designed instruction.
  • Extensive knowledge of general content curriculum standards and age-appropriate developmental expectations.
  • Considerable knowledge of state and federal policies overseeing services for students with disabilities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Apps.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to protect confidentiality under FERPA and related laws.
  • Ability to work in a team and collaborate.
  • Ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to monitor and supervise student safety.
  • Ability to accommodate diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; effective information flow.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students, parents, and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Develops IEPs for students with disabilities and updates them using diagnostic information.
  • Implements instructional strategies and progress monitoring tools.
  • Assists students in completing curriculum tasks and IEP goals.
  • Uses varied teaching methods and adapts materials to meet student needs.
  • Monitors behavior, maintains classroom discipline, deescalates inappropriate behaviors.
  • Evaluates student work and coordinates progress/report cards.
  • Attends IEP meetings as a collaborative team member.
  • Keeps up with trends and best practices via PD, social media, and collaboration.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
