Job summary

Valor Healthcare, Inc. in Fort Bragg, NC seeks a Mental Health Counselor to support behavioral health services for SOF personnel. You will work under licensed providers to assist with intakes, treatment planning, and direct client support in a high‑demand military environment.

Responsibilities include conducting intakes, supporting or leading therapy sessions under supervision, documenting observations, and maintaining data for outcomes and reports. A relevant degree and experience are required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or commensurate level of training in mental health (military mental health technician, psychiatric technician, or mental health program assistant).
• Education requirements may be met by military training if the specialty is mental health technician/specialist.
• Trained to intervene and, when required, restrain violent or potentially violent or suicidal clients (training can occur after hire).
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a mental health technician.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of a credentialed provider, conduct intakes and assist with care and treatment of psychiatric, drug and alcohol clients; counsel clients with personal, behavioral or psychological problems.
• Under supervision of a licensed mental health professional, provide behavioral health interventions from mitigation to treatment; define objectives, priorities, and deadlines and guide assignments lacking precedents.
• Observe clients to detect behavior patterns and report observations to licensed behavioral health staff.
• Lead prescribed individual or group therapy sessions as part of specific procedures under licensed professionals; may perform assigned tasks depending on contract type.
• Conduct intake interviews under supervision of a licensed mental health professional.
• Administer psychological tests, compile data and prepare reports under supervision of a licensed psychologist.
• Administer psychophysiological tests and assessments under supervision of licensed medical/mental health professionals.
• Populate and maintain a computerized database of units and personnel for monthly training statistics.
• Prepare daily correspondence (training agendas, meeting agendas, purchase orders, clinical appointments).
• Collect and maintain monthly statistical data for active-duty personnel who used Social Work/Behavioral Health services.
• Prepare attendance rosters and statistical data for all active-duty personnel who attended services.
• Assist or gather data for presentations on process improvements, longitudinal tracking, hospitalizations, and discharges.
• Manipulate data and present it using off‑the-shelf software applications.
