Overview

Under the supervision of the registered nurse, assist in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the highest level of physical and mental wellness. Perform designated clinical procedures and support tasks essential to nursing care. Assist in unit operational support and perform duties consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Responsibilities

1. Safety/Risk Management: Practice safe infection control, assess safety needs, follow policies, manage patient property, ensure equipment safety, and adhere to confidentiality and HIPAA policies. Assist with crisis situations using de-escalation techniques.
2. Coordination of Services: Acquire supplies, prioritize patient needs, participate in quality improvement, and assist in shift handoffs.
3. Communication Management: Accept delegated tasks, communicate effectively with the team, and provide shift reports.
4. Technology: Use unit-specific computer systems, perform clerical duties, operate medical equipment, and document in EMR.
5. Primary Aspects: Observe patient mood, assist with daily care, take vital signs, build rapport, and observe changes in patient condition.
6. Complex Aspects: Coordinate care with professionals, lead group activities, reinforce safety plans, and assist in monitoring patients in restraints.
7. Leadership Skills: Precept new coworkers and complete orientation documentation.

Qualifications

Preferred: High School Diploma and/or Nurse Assistant training; experience in behavioral health or related fields. Physical demands include lifting less than 30 lbs floor to waist and frequent hand coordination tasks.
