Job summary

DeKalb Regional Crisis Center (DRCC) is hiring Behavioral Health Technicians (BHT) for the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). The role provides direct client support, safety monitoring, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced crisis care environment.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, 1 year in social services, CPR/First Aid/MindSet or CPI, and basic computer skills. Preference given to candidates with psychology coursework and trauma-informed care

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of experience in social services or related field.
• CPR, First Aid, MindSet (or CPI), and Defensive Driving certification (or ability to obtain).
• Strong documentation and basic computer skills.
• Preferred: college coursework in psychology, social work, or related field.
• Two years of behavioral health experience (preferred).
• Familiarity with crisis intervention and trauma-informed care (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Monitor, observe, and document client behavior, condition, and safety.
• Offer emotional support and crisis intervention.
• Use de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe, therapeutic space.
• Lead or support recovery-focused activities and group sessions.
• Carry out treatment plans developed by clinicians.
• Document client interactions and progress using EHR.
• Monitor vital signs and assist in physical wellness checks.
• Work with nurses, therapists, psychiatrists, and case managers.
• Attend team meetings and provide updates on client progress.
• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and order on the unit.
• Complete mandatory training and participate in ongoing development.
