General Summary of Position

Job Summary: Medstar Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist to join our inpatient units at hospitals in the Baltimore area. The ideal candidate is a licensed social worker or professional counselor capable of providing therapeutic interventions, assessments, evaluations, and dispositions, with the ability to make independent clinical decisions.

The Behavioral Health Specialist will assess, evaluate, and determine dispositions for patients presenting with psychiatric concerns or illnesses in the Emergency Department, and process admissions to inpatient psychiatric units.

Primary Duties:

1. Complete documentation adhering to standards, including data collection, entry, and reporting. Coordinate admissions and referrals to internal and external resources, ensuring accurate documentation to support care levels and insurance authorizations.
2. Work collaboratively with inpatient units across multiple hospitals to coordinate admissions and communicate with hospitals and outpatient resources.
3. Serve as a liaison between inpatient units and outside agencies, processing referral information and coordinating transfers while maintaining confidentiality.
4. Participate in managing aggressive patients to ensure safety, recognize early warning signs, and intervene appropriately. Conduct clinical assessments and evaluations, and provide education to patients and families regarding inpatient and outpatient processes.
5. Communicate effectively with treating physicians, nurses, and community resources to ensure appropriate care. Provide timely documentation, ongoing assessments, and support to Emergency Department staff, including crisis assessments.

Qualifications:

1. Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
2. Licensed Certified Social Worker – Clinical (LCSW-C), Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), or Ph.D.
3. 1-2 years of experience in assessment and disposition of behavioral health disorders.

Minimum Qualifications: This position offers a hiring range of $60,632.00 - $101,899.20.
