General Summary of Position

Job Summary:

Medstar Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team at inpatient units in Baltimore area hospitals. The ideal candidate is a licensed social worker or professional counselor capable of providing therapeutic interventions, assessments, evaluations, and dispositions, with the ability to make independent clinical decisions.

The Behavioral Health Specialist will assess, evaluate, and disposition patients presenting psychiatric concerns in the Emergency Department and process admissions to inpatient psychiatric units.

Primary Duties:
  1. Complete documentation relevant to activities, ensuring adherence to standards, data collection, entry, and reporting requirements. Coordinate admissions within Behavioral Health Services and related programs. Ensure accurate documentation to substantiate levels of care and coordinate insurance authorizations. Ensure legal paperwork accuracy.
  2. Work effectively with inpatient units at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, MedStar Harbor Hospital, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, and MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital to coordinate admissions. Communicate with area hospitals and outpatient resources for care coordination.
  3. Serve as liaison between inpatient units and outside agencies to facilitate admissions, process referral information, and communicate with referral sources, inpatient staff, and admissions departments, maintaining confidentiality.
  4. Participate in managing aggressive patients to ensure safety, recognize early warning signs, and intervene appropriately. Conduct clinical assessments, engage, and disposition patients with various diagnoses. Educate patients and families about inpatient and outpatient resources. Gather clinical history for appropriate care recommendations.
  5. Communicate effectively with treating physicians, nurses, and community resources. Provide timely documentation and assessments, support ED staff with behavioral health issues, and conduct crisis assessments.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Licensed Certified Social Worker - Clinical (LCSW-C), Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), or Ph.D.
  • 1-2 years of experience in assessment and disposition of behavioral health disorders.
Additional Information:

This position offers a hiring range of $60,632 - $107,494.
