General Summary of Position

Medstar Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team at inpatient units in Baltimore area hospitals. The ideal candidate is a licensed social worker or professional counselor capable of providing therapeutic interventions, assessments, evaluations, and dispositions, with the ability to make independent clinical decisions.

The Behavioral Health Specialist will conduct assessments, evaluations, and dispositions for patients presenting with psychiatric concerns in the Emergency Department and process admissions to inpatient psychiatric units. Primary Duties

1. Complete documentation related to activities, ensuring adherence to standards, data collection, and reporting requirements. Coordinate admissions and referrals to internal/external resources, ensuring accurate documentation and insurance authorization.
2. Work directly with inpatient units at MedStar Franklin Square, Harbor, Union Memorial, and Good Samaritan Hospitals to coordinate admissions. Communicate effectively with hospitals and outpatient resources.
3. Serve as liaison between inpatient units and outside agencies to facilitate admissions, process referral information, and coordinate transfers while maintaining confidentiality.
4. Participate in managing aggressive patients, recognizing early warning signs, and intervening appropriately. Conduct clinical assessments, engage, and disposition patients with various diagnoses. Educate patients and families about processes and resources.
5. Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and community resources to ensure appropriate care. Provide timely documentation, ongoing assessments, and support to ED staff for behavioral health issues. Conduct comprehensive crisis assessments.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
• Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW-C), Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), or Ph.D.
• 1-2 years of experience in behavioral health assessment and disposition.

Additional Information

This position offers a hiring range of $60,632.00 - $101,899.20.
