Job summary

AVONDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a Behavior Intervention Specialist to support students in a special education program under the supervision of the special education teacher. You will help students manage behavioral and emotional challenges and contribute to individualized education plans.

The role requires CPI and First Aid/CPR certifications and a commitment to school-based program development, documentation, and student safety.

Qualifications

• Experience working with emotionally/behaviorally disabled students in school, mental health, or hospital settings preferred.
• Knowledge of child development concepts and practices.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance card.
• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification (district offered).
• First Aid and CPR training certification (district offered).
• Background check clearance required upon employment.

Responsibilities

• Work intensively with students who have been unable to function effectively in the classroom and address behavioral/emotional problems.
• Communicate reality-based problem solving techniques to students.
• Complete and maintain CPI certification.
• Complete and maintain First Aid and CPR training certification.
• Assist in developing and administering educational programs for behaviorally/emotionally and/or academically challenged students.
• Assist teachers by interacting with disruptive or emotionally needy students in the classroom.
• Prepare or assist in preparing logs, reports and files.
• Escort children to bus, time-out, nurse, and across campus.
• Foster decision-making and communication between students and teachers.
• Follow district policies, procedures, and directives in a timely manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
