Job summary

Wilkes County Schools is seeking a Behavioral Specialist to collaborate with district staff on assessing and improving student behavior. The role includes conducting functional behavioral assessments and guiding the development and implementation of functional behavior plans to support students with challenging behaviors.

The position requires a valid teaching certificate or related certificate and a Master’s Degree in a related field.

Qualifications

Valid Teaching Certificate or related certificate.
Master’s Degree in related field.
Demonstrated understanding of federal and state special education laws.
Demonstrated understanding of inclusive education and differentiated instruction.
Demonstrated understanding of behavior management techniques and methods.

Responsibilities

Works with teachers to assess and improve student behavior.
Provides functional behavioral assessments when appropriate.
Develops and facilitates the implementation of functional behavior plans.
Facilitates the development of behavior modification plans.
Provides home/school behavior intervention support models.
Provides staff development focusing on students with difficult behaviors and related topics.
Consults with IEP teams as requested.
Supports paraprofessionals assigned to students with difficult behaviors.
Completes random moment in time studies as required by MAC program guidelines.
Performs other related work as required.
