Job summary

Amazon seeks a Battery Pack Mechanical Design Engineer II for the Drone Electric Propulsion Subsystem. You will design, develop, and validate battery packs from concept to production, focusing on high-voltage systems with safety, reliability, and manufacturability in mind.

You will create 3D models and detailed drawings in CATIA, perform FEA, and coordinate with electrical, safety, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust battery solutions for drone propulsion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 4+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience taking a mechanical design from concept through prototype to production.
• Battery pack mechanical design including cell-to-pack architecture and enclosures.
• CAD proficiency: SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, or NX with GD&T and detailed drawings.
• Sealing and enclosure design for IP-rated enclosures and gaskets.
• Understanding of high-voltage safety and isolation coordination.
• Familiarity with thermal runaway mitigation.
• Interface knowledge with BMS, HVIL, and service disconnects.
• DFM/DFA and tooling/pack assembly experience.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical architecture for high-voltage Li-Ion packs, including cell arrangement and enclosures.
• Create 3D models and drawings using CATIA with GD&T.
• Develop cell-to-pack packaging concepts balancing energy density and manufacturability.
• Design and integrate thermal management systems and IP-rated enclosures.
• Perform FEA and tolerance stack-up analyses to validate designs.
• Plan prototype builds, validation testing, and root-cause analysis.
• Ensure HV safety with creepage/clearance and isolation.
• Comply with standards (UN 38.3, UL 2580, IEC 62133).
• Develop test plans for DO-160/DO-274 verification.
• Support DFMEA and design-for-safety activities.
• Coordinate with electrical/safety teams and manufacturing.
