Job summary

The Programming Coach is a key role at The St. James in Springfield, VA, delivering high-quality instructional basketball programming across clinics, camps, leagues, and development sessions.

You will teach fundamentals, build confidence, and create a safe, engaging environment for athletes of varying ages and skill levels. We seek individuals with at least two years of coaching youth, strong basketball knowledge, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• At least two years of prior experience coaching or working with youth athletes (basketball preferred).
• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals.
• Patience, professionalism, and strong communication skills.
• Ability to work afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends.
• Background check required.

Responsibilities

• Lead basketball drills, stations, and skill-development sessions.
• Set up and break down courts, equipment, and training materials.
• Adapt instruction for various ages and ability levels.
• Provide clear demonstrations and teaching cues.
• Foster a positive, disciplined, and encouraging environment.
• Ensure the safety of all participants.
• Maintain professionalism with athletes, families, and staff.
