Job summary

Rivers Casino Des Plaines is seeking on-call event staff to deliver high-level guest service for banquets and receptions. You will handle groups from 5 to 250, manage drink orders, and ensure accurate service across reception, plated, and buffet setups.

A strong focus on professionalism and teamwork is required. Your responsibilities include maintaining menu knowledge, assisting in drink preparations, and handling payments while keeping guest satisfaction as a priority.

Qualifications

• One (1) year guest service experience, preferably in hospitality.
• Must know how to serve banquet, buffet, passed appetizers, etc.
• Must lift at least 20 pounds at a time.
• Must stand and walk for long periods, and bend/twist as needed.
• Excellent interpersonal communications to interact with guests and team members.
• Be cooperative, friendly, neat, and well-groomed.
• Attend and pass Responsible Alcohol Training; follow cut-off procedures.
• Able to communicate with team members and guests.
• Complete pre-employment process and licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Know menu items, specials, and prices; follow all procedures.
• Clear tables and return glassware, dishes, and garnishments to proper areas.
• Assist in drink preparation (icing glasses, garnishes) as needed.
• Take drink orders, present, and handle payments and change.
• Address guest complaints promptly and courteously.
• Ensure clear communication between shifts and with kitchen/culinary teams.
• Follow departmental rules, side work, and procedures; perform other duties.

Job Functions: This is an on Call position

• Responsible for providing service to all event customers in an efficient courteous and professional manner displaying a high standard of customer service.
• Ability to serve groups of 5 to 250 in reception, plated and buffet style special events.
• Serves both inside comp events and outside cash events.
• Knows the menu items, specials, and prices.
• Possesses complete knowledge of all procedures related to the job.
• Picks up empty glasses, dishes, silverware and returns them to the proper area.
• Assists in the preparation of drink orders as required (icing glasses, garnishing drinks).
• Works in assigned area, taking drink orders, presenting drinks to customers, accepting payment and giving change when necessary.
• Handles any guest’s complaints or problems in a prompt and courteous manner.
• Ensures thorough communication between shifts.
• Complies with all departmental rules, side work assignments, and departmental procedures.
• Performs all other duties specified or assigned.

Job Requirements:

• One (1) year guest service experience, preferably in the hospitality environment.
• Must have knowledge of how to serve banquet style, buffet style, passed appetizers, etc..
• Must be able to lift at least twenty (20) pounds at one time and grip necessary items (glasses, pens, pads, garnishments, money, etc.)
• Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time as well as bend, stoop, and twist while serving.
• Must possess outstanding interpersonal communications skills to effectively interface with guests and team members.
• Must also possess a cooperative, helpful and friendly nature, and present a neat, clean, well-groomed
• Must attend and pass Responsible Alcohol Training; must adhere to cut-off procedures
• Ability to communicate with Team members and guests
• Ability to successfully fulfill the pre-employment process and maintain all licensing requirements
