Job summary

The Banquet Captain is responsible for supervising and assisting with the set up, service, and clean up of all assigned banquet functions.

This role requires leadership, guest service excellence, and the ability to work under pressure within a hotel environment. A minimum of 1 year of progressive hotel experience is required, with a High School diploma; college coursework is helpful and Alcohol Awareness certification is expected where required by state regulations.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of progressive experience in a hotel or related field required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • College coursework in related field helpful.
  • Alcohol Awareness Certification (must comply with state regulations).
  • Ability to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Ability to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to work well in stressful, high pressure situations.
  • Initiative in job performance, including anticipating what needs to be done.
  • Maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
  • Effective at handling problems in the workplace and solving them as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service oriented manner.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Avion Hospitality standards.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming and wear the proper uniform and name tag.
  • Comply with Avion Hospitality standards and regulations for safe and efficient operations.
  • Comply with certification requirements as applicable to position (Alcohol Awareness, Food Handlers, Safety, etc.).
  • Inspect the set-up of meeting and banquet functions against the Banquet Event Order.
  • Supervise and assist with the set-up of assigned catered functions to meet hotel standards.
  • Liaise between Sales/Catering Manager and in-house meeting or banquet contact.
  • Respond to guests’ problems and communicate issues to Banquet Manager or F&B Manager.
  • Assist in creation of Banquet Work Schedule and Banquet Wage Progress Reports.
  • Assist in service of functions and banquet set-up as required.
  • Requisition liquor for banquet bars and maintain proper control over beverage service.
  • Supervise break down after functions and ensure equipment and supplies are stored properly.
  • Inspect sanitation of function space and storage areas to maintain cleanliness.
  • Follow all state liquor laws.
  • Be familiar with banquet menus and prices.
  • Know hotel services and facilities.
  • Enforce all hotel policies and safety rules.
  • Know fire exit and extinguisher locations and how to operate.
  • Supervise Banquet staff as directed by Banquet Manager/Supervisor/F&B Manager.
  • Enforce Standard Operating Procedures for the Banquet department.
  • Hold pre-function meetings, check staffing and menus prior to events.
  • Ensure required equipment is available for events.
  • Assign tasks to servers and stations and supervise service.
  • Prepare banquet checks and obtain signatures from guest contact.
  • Monitor ongoing functions and assist servers as needed.
  • Supervise clean-up and verify servers’ paperwork when the event is complete.
  • Assist in hiring and training Banquet staff.
  • Assist audio/visual company as necessary.
  • Correct hazards and notify management.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by F&B Manager.
  • Attend meetings and cross-train as necessary for supervisory support.
  • Submit supply orders and maintain inventory levels.
  • Handle Lost and Found items according to standards.
  • Other duties as required.
