Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Bakery Clerk to support the bakery department with customer service, product prep, and replenishment. You will greet customers, help locate items, and ensure product freshness throughout shifts.

You will also maintain sanitation, handle light administrative tasks, operate the register, and assist teammates to deliver a warm, welcoming shopping experience. Prior experience is not required, but reliability is essential.

Qualifications

• Follow written and verbal instructions with confidence.
• Use basic math for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
• Communicate clearly with customers and teammates in a friendly, helpful way.
• Stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy bakery environment.
• Less than a high school diploma or equivalent accepted; up to six months of similar or related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly and making them feel welcome in the bakery
• Assist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and taking orders at the bakery counter
• Review daily orders and monitor product freshness, appearance, and supply levels throughout your shift
• Prepare, finish, and replenish baked goods as needed, pulling product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for baking
• Follow and maintain proper sanitation procedures, keeping your work area clean and organized at all times
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed
• Operate the department register to process payments where applicable
• Remove trash in a timely manner and maintain a tidy department
• Work alongside your teammates to ensure a smooth, positive experience for every customer
• Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed
