Job Title: Bakery Clerk

Department: Bakery

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function

Responsible for reviewing daily orders, preparing & replenishing products in a prompt, efficient, and friendly manner. Ensures a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Reporting Relations

Accountable to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home; Bakery Department Manager

Positions reporting to you: None

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions.
  • Greet customers with a smile and address them by name when possible.
  • Assist customers by escorting them, securing out-of-reach products, loading heavy items, and passing along suggestions or requests.
  • Review food freshness and order status.
  • Take customer orders at the bakery counter.
  • Work with co-workers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean.
  • Ensure an adequate food supply, develop or follow a production list, and prepare/replenish products.
  • Manage inventory, including pulling from coolers/freezers and reviewing invoices.
  • Operate the department register and handle payments.
  • Maintain personal hygiene and dress according to company guidelines.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
Secondary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Wash dishes as needed.
  • Order products and supplies.
  • Price products for customers.
  • Deliver orders as needed.
  • Assist in other store areas as required.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and deal with concrete variables.
  • Basic math skills such as addition and subtraction.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions, and request supplies orally or in writing.
Education And Experience

Less than high school or equivalent experience, with six months or less of related work experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
  • Good vision at various distances, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
  • Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions

Work is mainly in a store environment with pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. Exposure to flour dust, noise, chemicals, electrical shocks, and temperature extremes.

Equipment Used

Bakery tools and equipment including mixers, ovens, wrapping machines, label printers, cash registers, dishwashers, bread slicers, electric knives, microwaves, airbrushes, and copy machines.

Contacts

Daily contact with the public, customers, and regulatory agencies regarding inspections.
