Job Title: Bakery Clerk

General Function: Responsible for reviewing daily orders, preparing & replenishing products in a prompt, efficient, and friendly manner. Ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Reporting Relations

Accountable to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home; Bakery Department Manager

Positions reporting to you: None

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions.
  • Greet customers with a smile and learn their names when possible.
  • Assist customers by escorting them, securing out-of-reach products, loading heavy items, passing along suggestions, and enhancing the shopping experience.
  • Review food for freshness and orders for the day.
  • Take customer orders at the bakery counter.
  • Work with co-workers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Follow proper sanitation procedures and maintain a clean work area.
  • Ensure an adequate food supply, develop or follow production lists, and prepare products as needed.
  • Handle product from cooler/freezer, check in product, and review invoices.
  • Operate the department registers and handle payments.
  • Remove trash timely and adhere to hygiene and dress guidelines.
  • Report to work on time as scheduled.
Secondary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Wash dishes, order supplies, price products, deliver orders, and assist in other store areas as needed.
  • Perform other related duties and projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and deal with concrete variables.
  • Basic math skills including addition and subtraction.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions and request supplies orally or in writing.
Education and Experience

Less than high school or equivalent experience, with six months or less of related work experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
  • Visual requirements include clarity at various distances, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
  • Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions

Work is conducted in a store environment with exposure to flour dust, noise, chemicals, electrical shocks, and temperature extremes.

Equipment Used

Includes mixers, ovens, wrapping, label printers, cash registers, dishwashers, bread slicers, electric knives, microwaves, airbrushes, and copy machines.
