Job summary

Ashley Furniture is seeking a Backhaul Transportation Coordinator to optimize our transportation network and reduce empty miles. You will partner with Assistant Fleet Managers to assign drivers for backhauls, solicit freight, and use load boards to maximize revenue while ensuring DOT compliance.

In this fast-paced role, you will negotiate rates, maintain data integrity, and provide proactive updates to customers and brokers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, or similar field.
• Familiarity with load boards such as DAT, Internet Truckstop, Truckstop.com, or similar platforms.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills with ability to build relationships with customers and brokers.
• Ability to analyze data and identify opportunities for improvement and revenue growth.
• Proactive mindset and problem-solving in fast-paced environments.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Understanding of transportation industry terminology, pricing, and operations.
• Customer service orientation with professional phone and email communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions quickly.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate driver schedules and identify backhaul opportunities with fleet managers.
• Solicit daily, weekly, and monthly freight from customers and brokers.
• Use load boards and TMS to match capacity with opportunities.
• Negotiate rates with customers and brokers to maximize profitability.
• Monitor lane performance and revenue metrics to drive growth.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure DOT compliance and data integrity.
