Job summary

Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) is seeking a Backflow and Cross Connection Coordinator to oversee its backflow and cross-connection program, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards.

The role involves surveys of customer water services, inspections, updating GIS for backflow locations, and coordinating with the Distribution System Operator and Customer Service to enforce testing policies. Valid NC driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with plumbing and cross-connection knowledge.
• Three years of relevant experience plus one year managing a similar program.
• Ability to obtain Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester and ORC certifications.
• Valid NC driver’s license and familiarity with regulations related to water quality.
• Ability to explain technical information to a diverse audience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Backflow and Cross Connection Program ensuring compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
• Surveys of customer water services to determine hazard levels and update GIS with backflow details.
• Conduct site inspections and review development plans for compliance with codes.
• Maintain BSI system and coordinate with ORC and Customer Service to enforce testing policies.
• Serve as a backup for answering customer calls and dispatching field staff as needed.
