Job summary

Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) seeks a Backflow and Cross-Connection Coordinator to oversee our program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements while protecting drinking water quality.

You will conduct surveys, track installations, perform site inspections, and collaborate with the Customer Service team to educate customers and enforce testing policies. A valid NC driver’s license and relevant certifications are required or obtainable.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with relevant schooling or training and at least three years of experience in plumbing, backflow and cross-connection principles.
• One year of experience managing a similar project or program.
• Ability to obtain Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester and ORC certifications.
• Valid NC driver's license and familiarity with regulations related to water quality.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Backflow and Cross Connection Program and other regulatory compliance programs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
• Surveys of customer water services to determine possible hazard levels for contamination.
• Monitor, document, and track installations, repairs, or changes; conduct site inspections and update GIS.
• Respond to customer inquiries and review development plans for compliance.
• Maintain compliance tracking in BSI System and coordinate with distributor operations and customer service.
• Serve as a backup for answering customer calls and dispatching field staff.
