Job summary

Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) is seeking a Backflow and Cross Connection Coordinator to oversee its backflow and cross-connection program, ensuring efficiency and reliability.

The role involves regulatory compliance, customer outreach, GIS updates, and collaboration with the Distribution System Operator and Customer Service teams to enforce testing policies and resolve inquiries.

Qualifications

• Thorough understanding of plumbing, backflow prevention and cross-connection control principles.
• Able to explain technical information to diverse audiences, including owners and contractors.
• Familiarity with local, state, and federal water quality regulations and cross-connection rules.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Backflow and Cross Connection Program and other regulatory compliance programs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
• Survey customer water services to determine the possible degree of hazard for water and sewer system contamination or pollution.
• Monitor, document, and track new installations, repairs, replacements, or change of use; update GIS with backflow location and details.
• Respond to customer inquiries regarding Backflow and Cross Connection Program.
• Review development plans and permits to verify existing and new installations meet OWASA and NC code requirements.
• Coordinate with ORC and Customer Service to enforce backflow testing policies and promote compliance.
• Serve as a backup for answering customer calls and dispatching field staff as needed.
