Job summary

OWASA is seeking a Backflow and Cross-Connection Coordinator to oversee our program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements and promoting public health.

You will monitor installations, conduct site inspections, update GIS data, and coordinate with the Distribution System Operator and Customer Service to enforce testing policies and respond to inquiries. This role supports continuous improvement in safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 3+ years plumbing/backflow experience.
• Able to obtain Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester and ORC certifications.
• Valid NC driver's license.
• Familiar with water quality and cross-connection regulations.
• Cityworks experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Backflow and Cross Connection Program and other compliance programs.
• Survey customer water services to assess hazard levels for contamination.
• Monitor, document and track new installations; update GIS with backflow data.
• Respond to customer inquiries regarding Backflow and Cross Connection.
• Review plans to ensure compliance with applicable codes and manuals.
• Maintain BSI compliance tracking system.
• Coordinate with ORC and Customer Service to enforce testing policies.
• Serve as backup for answering calls and dispatching field staff.
