Job summary

Washington Water Service is seeking a Cross Connection Control Specialist to inspect, survey and enforce backflow prevention requirements. You will work with customers and contractors to test assemblies, identify cross connections, and ensure compliance with state and company standards.

The role requires Backflow and Water Distribution certifications, strong communication skills, and the ability to perform fieldwork at the assigned office location.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans and piping diagrams, safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; and write routine reports and correspondence.
• High School diploma or equivalent, a valid Washington Class PDL Driver's license, and be insurable under the Company's policy.
• Working knowledge of basic word processing programs and electronic mail processing programs; able to work with supervision and respond to direction, feedback, evaluation, coaching, counseling, and/or discipline.
• Understanding and knowledge of backflow prevention rules and regulations, WA Administrative Code 246-290-490, Uniform Plumbing Code; and knowledge of piping systems and water flow rates to recommend backflow prevention strategies.
• Understanding of water quality specifications and NPDES rules and regulations.
• Washington State Water Distribution Operator II certification is required.
• Cross Connection Control Specialist certification is required.
• Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect backflow prevention assemblies and enforce regulatory requirements.
• Perform cross-connection control surveys identifying cross connections that pose risks to the distribution system.
• Apply knowledge of piping, volume, flow and backflow preventers to determine required protection.
• Test backflow prevention assemblies and inspect new customer pipes for compliance.
• Approve and sign off on test results and track compliance.
• Maintain backflow prevention assembly database and generate customer correspondence.
• Terminate water service for noncompliance.
• Communicate with customers, contractors, testers and officials; collaborate on projects and provide recommendations.
• Prepare necessary reports for work completed.
• Maintain tester certification and test kit calibration records.
• Perform work on-site in the assigned office location.
• Other duties as assigned.
