Job summary

The City of Winston-Salem is seeking a skilled intermediate level technician for water distribution tasks, with emphasis on Cross Connection Control and Backflow Prevention. Performs inspections, testing, and documentation with supervision by Utilities Supervisor in a team setting.

Responsibilities include coordinating with city departments, researching equipment, locating meters, and assisting with GPS locating backflow prevention assemblies.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED with experience in water distribution or construction.
• Associates/Technical degree with coursework in drafting, mathematics, and surveying preferred.
• Experience in utilities design and backflow testing and documentation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate testing and documentation of new backflow assemblies.
• Research and assist with hydrant meter installations and inspections.
• Inspect and test hydrant meter assemblies.
• Locate and operate water valves and meters for backflow testing.
• Perform hydrant and valve inspections and maintenance.
• Assist with water system shutdowns and GPS locating backflow assemblies.
• Document water meters and backflow prevention assemblies.
• Operate City-owned vehicle and equipment.
• Use backflow testing equipment and basic hand tools.
