Job summary

OfferUp is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to design, implement, and deploy backend services and real-time pipelines. You will own features from concept to rollout, mentor teammates, and drive experimentation-backed decisions with Product, Design, and Data partners.

Responsibilities include building scalable, event-driven systems, ensuring reliability, and integrating with Braze and other push services. A strong Java background and passion for shipping quickly are essential.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong coding skills in Java with microservices experience.
• Experience with asynchronous, event-driven systems and retries.
• Experience using AI coding tools in production workflows.
• Comfortable with code reviews and feedback.

Responsibilities

• Own features end-to-end from concept to rollout.
• Design, build, and deploy backend services and event-driven pipelines.
• Improve reliability, latency, and delivery for high-volume messaging systems.
• Integrate with Braze, Amazon Pinpoint, APNs and Google push services.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement new features.
• Contribute to A/B tests using experimentation results.
• Mentor juniors and participate in code reviews.
