Job summary

Speechify, a leader in text-to-speech technology, is seeking a backend engineer to own and evolve the payments, subscriptions, and public TTS API stack. You’ll improve performance, reliability, and scale across multiple platforms while collaborating with product, mobile, and web teams.

The role emphasizes building for high reliability, automating repeatable tasks, and delivering enterprise-ready integrations.

Qualifications

Proven backend experience in TS/Node (required).
Direct experience with GCP; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another cloud.
A habit of giving away work you used to own, with demonstrable results.
Daily setup with AI agents, described in detail.
Ability to verify results against logs, DB state, and the actual request.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and our public TTS API.
Take on services you didn’t write and make them faster, cheaper, and harder to break.
Establish that a change is correct before it ships, and leave behind checks for correctness.
Automate the parts of your role that shouldn’t need a person, then focus on what that frees up.
Turn one-off work into repeatable processes for the team.
Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on top of us.
Collaborate with product, mobile, and web to keep backend architecture ahead of the product.
