Job summary

Speechify is seeking a backend engineer to design, build, and own the APIs powering payments, subscriptions, and the public TTS API. You will optimize services for performance and cost, and automate repeatable work to scale with demand.

You will collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture ahead of the product roadmap, while ensuring reliability across multiple clients and platforms.

Qualifications

• Strong backend experience with TypeScript/Node.js.
• Direct experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and cloud services.
• Ability to design and own scalable API-backed services.
• Proactive in automating repetitive tasks and building repeatable work.
• Ability to verify changes against logs, DB state, and real requests.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and the public TTS API.
• Improve existing services to be faster, cheaper, and more reliable.
• Automate repetitive tasks and enable the team to reuse work widely.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on Speechify.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture aligned with product direction.
