Job summary

Block is seeking a Software Engineer for the Tax Engine Server Engineering team to design, build, and own features powering Cash App Taxes. You will translate complex tax requirements into clean, well-tested code and collaborate with Tax Product Specialists and cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy and reliability.

You will contribute to scalable, secure systems, implement best practices for deployment and testing, and stay current with industry standards while applying an AI-first mindset

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong technical skills in backend development, including system design, architecture, and object-oriented programming.
• A track record of delivering reliable, high-quality software solutions on schedule.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Passion for building innovative software that simplifies complicated processes for everyday users.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own high-quality features and systems powering the Tax Engine Server.
• Translate tax rules into reliable, maintainable code in partnership with Tax Product Specialists.
• Build tools and guardrails for non-technical contributors to safely modify code.
• Lead architectural and design decisions to keep software scalable and secure.
• Write reliable, well-tested code and establish best practices for coding, testing, deployment, and documentation.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver cohesive tax software solutions.
