Job summary

DoorDash, Inc. in San Francisco, CA, seeks a Backend Software Engineer to design, build and operate large-scale web services across product areas.

You will help define backend architecture, transition from monoliths to microservices, and improve performance, reliability and security in a global logistics platform. The role requires 2+ years in backend development, strong REST API delivery, and experience with SQL/NoSQL databases.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in CS or equivalent.
• 2+ years industry experience in backend development.
• Proficiency with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) in the full SDLC.
• Ability to analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of system resources.
• Experience with service oriented architecture, REST APIs, unit testing, and architectural design.
• Understanding of modern web stacks and architecture (HTTP, REST).
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (Postgres, Redis, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ).

Responsibilities

• Develop, release and run large-scale web applications.
• Define backend architecture and tech stack for a product area.
• Improve performance, reliability, scalability and security of backend systems.
• Transition monolithic codebase to a microservice-based architecture.
• Tackle bleeding-edge technical problems to disrupt logistics.
