Job summary

Upstart Bank seeks a Software Engineer I to design, build, and maintain reliable backend software for a national, digital-first bank. You’ll collaborate across Product, Compliance, Legal, Risk, Finance, Operations, and Engineering to deliver scalable solutions in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of software engineering experience with backend or full-stack systems.
• Experience building production backend services and APIs.
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, or similar.
• Strong fundamentals in software design, testing, debugging, and ownership.
• Ability to work well in ambiguous, cross-functional environments.

• Design, build, test, and maintain scalable backend systems, services, and APIs.
• Deliver high-quality software while collaborating with senior engineers on projects.
• Translate business, regulatory, and operational requirements into reliable software.
