CVS Health is seeking a Backend Capability Product Specialist to own the backend platform, API ecosystem, and third‑party integration layer of our SaaS product suite. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, business strategy, and market intelligence to drive scalable, interoperable systems powering internal capabilities and partner integrations.

You will lead API design, governance, and integration strategy with EHR/EMR platforms, HL7 FHIR, and modern interoperability standards, while

Qualifications

7+ years in product management
4+ years on backend systems, APIs, or platform products
SaaS platform features delivered at scale in B2B/enterprise
Deep understanding of RESTful API design and modern integration patterns
Hands-on with API management platforms (e.g., Apigee, AWS API Gateway, Kong, MuleSoft)
Strong ROI modeling, market sizing, and competitive differentiation
Experience leading API or platform product strategy
Comfort reading API specs (OpenAPI/Swagger) and participating in architecture discussions

Responsibilities

Own the product roadmap for backend systems, APIs, and data platform capabilities
Define API design standards, versioning, and developer experience principles
Drive vision for scalable, event-driven microservices architecture with engineering leads
Establish and govern API governance including authentication, rate limiting, and SLAs
Lead strategy for third-party integrations and marketplace ecosystem development
Identify and prioritize integration opportunities with EHR/EMR platforms (Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth)
Collaborate on interoperability standards: HL7 FHIR, SMART on FHIR, TEFCA/QHIN
Manage integration roadmap from vendor evaluation through production go-live
Monitor market trends, regulatory shifts, and competitive landscape to inform backend roadmaps
Evaluate AI model APIs and real-time data streaming for business-ready features
Build ROI-based business cases tied to revenue, retention, or efficiency
Partner with Sales/CS/pre-sales to understand unmet integration needs
Define and track platform KPIs: API adoption, uptime, latency, integration success, developer satisfaction
Serve as API product evangelist to enable internal teams to leverage platform capabilities
