Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Backend Capability Product Specialist to own the backend platform, API ecosystem, and third-party integration layer of our SaaS product suite. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, business strategy, and market intelligence — driving scalable, interoperable systems powering internal capabilities and external partner integrations.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of product management experience.
• 4+ years focused on backend systems, APIs, or platform products.
• Proven track record delivering SaaS platform features at scale, ideally in a B2B/enterprise context.
• Deep understanding of RESTful API design, webhooks, async messaging, and modern integration patterns.
• Hands-on experience with API management platforms (e.g., Apigee, AWS API Gateway, Kong, MuleSoft).
• Strong ROI modeling, market sizing, and competitive differentiation experience.
• Experience leading API or platform product strategy, not just execution.

Responsibilities

• Own the product roadmap for backend systems, APIs, and data platform capabilities.
• Define API design standards, versioning strategies, and developer experience (DX) principles.
• Drive the vision for a scalable, event-driven microservices architecture with engineering leads.
• Establish and govern API governance frameworks including authentication, rate limiting, and SLA commitments.
• Lead strategy and execution for third-party integrations, partner APIs, and marketplace ecosystem development.
• Identify and prioritize integration opportunities with EHR/EMR platforms, payer systems, and health data networks.
• Collaborate with architects to evaluate interoperability standards (HL7 FHIR, SMART on FHIR, TEFCA).
• Manage integration roadmap from vendor evaluation through production go-live and lifecycle.
