JVC Northwest is seeking a Recreation Services Coordinator to plan, schedule and run recreational activities for residential clients within our treatment program. Activities include museum and theater trips, sports events, and outdoor adventures to support recovery and engagement.
You will co-facilitate Mindfulness and group processes, coordinate with staff and supervisors, and help grow living skills and advocacy offerings.

Brief Position Description:
The Recreation Services Coordinator is the program's primary position responsible for planning, scheduling, and implementing the recreational activities offered to our residential clients through our treatment program. The recreation services are aimed at exposing clients to a wide variety of recreational activities, both spectator- and participant-oriented. These include trips to area museums, theaters, music performances, professional and college sporting and performance events, pottery painting, kayaking, bowling, rock climbing, hiking, fishing; as well as longer-term commitments such as a summer softball league and winter/spring basketball league. In addition, the position contributes to a host of other direct-service and advocacy offerings, including group facilitation, basic service coordination and case management.

Required experience, qualities, or specialized training
A valid driver's license and a good driving record; must be approved by VOA insurance to drive VOA vehicles, a necessity when taking the clients on recreation activities; able to pass a criminal history check through the Oregon Department of Human Services -- while this check includes some disqualifying criteria, it does not prohibit anyone with a criminal record from volunteering for the program; good physical health with the ability to participate in most, but not necessarily all recreation/sporting activities with our clients -- for example, these include basketball, football, softball, hiking, snowboarding, etc.; a desire to offer services with people who are living with addiction and referred from the criminal justice system and a willingness to learn about and promote a life of recovery for our clients; finally, in reference to co-facilitating the weekly Living Skills Class, a willingness to research and develop an understanding of basic life skill enrichment sessions.
Preferred experience, qualities or specialized training
Experience in coordinating recreational activities and serving disadvantaged populations is helpful; knowledge of addictions and criminal justice issues; strong communication skills and group management skills are helpful in maintaining and establishing partnerships with frequent recreation vendors/providers and connecting with the clients in both formal and informal settings around the treatment center.
