Sompo seeks an AVP, Surety Claims to lead technical management of large and complex U.S. Surety claims across various bond types. This role is based in one of several U.S.

offices including Scottsdale, AZ, with cross-functional collaboration to mitigate risk and drive cost-effective resolutions. The role requires 10+ years in Surety claims, leadership experience, and strong legal/contract review capabilities.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Surety claims experience with leadership and technical responsibility.
• Experience handling complex high-exposure Surety claims, including matters over $10M.
• Leadership experience mentoring/overseeing Surety claims professionals.
• Strong legal/contract review skills with settlements and litigation documents.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication abilities; builds cross-functional relationships.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage complex U.S. Surety claims, including coverage and damages.
• Lead strategies and resolution efforts for performance bond and high-exposure matters.
• Partner with underwriting and leadership to mitigate risk and deliver cost-effective solutions.
• Provide large-loss, reinsurance, reserve, trend, and collateral reporting.
• Deliver technical guidance and mentorship to claims staff and support org initiatives.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and represent the organization at industry events; travel as needed.
