Job summary

Sompo seeks an AVP, Surety Claims to lead complex U.S. Surety claims with exposure over $10M, spanning coal, oil & gas reclamation, construction bonds, and more.

This senior role offers oversight, cross-functional collaboration, and strategic guidance across underwriting, finance, and operations. You will mentor claims staff, review contracts, and travel to collaborate with stakeholders while advancing Sompo's claims strategy and risk management.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Surety claims experience with leadership responsibilities.
• Proven expertise handling high-exposure claims (>$10M).
• Legal/contract review experience including settlements and bonds.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage complex U.S. Surety claims, including coverage and damages.
• Develop strategies and lead resolution of high-exposure matters.
• Partner with underwriting and leadership to mitigate risk and cut costs.
• Provide large loss, reserve, and trend reporting; mentor staff.
