Job summary

Sompo is seeking an AVP, Surety Claims to lead and manage complex U.S. Surety claims, including large losses and high-exposure matters across multiple bond types.

The role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration with underwriting, finance, and operations, plus mentorship of claims staff. Ideal candidates have 10+ years of Surety claims experience, strong legal review skills, and professional credentials such as CPCU or a J.D., with readiness to travel to various North American offices

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Surety claims with leadership responsibility.
• Experience handling high-exposure claims over $10M.
• Strong legal and contract review capabilities; CPCU/J.D. preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage complex U.S. Surety claims, including coverage, liability, damages, and substantive decisions.
• Develop strategies and lead resolution efforts for performance bonds and high-exposure matters.
• Partner with underwriting, leadership, and cross-functional teams to mitigate risk and deliver cost-effective claim solutions.
• Provide timely large loss, reinsurance, reserve, trend, and collateral management reporting.
• Deliver guidance, training, and mentorship to claims staff and support organizational initiatives.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, travel as needed.
