Job summary

Starr invites applications for an Assistant Vice President – Primary Casualty Claims in its U.S. operation. The AVP will lead a six-person team, drive timely and fair claim resolutions, and push process improvements across underwriting and risk management.

Strong leadership, analytics, and regulatory knowledge are essential as responsibilities include settlements, reporting, and policy development. The role emphasizes developing staff, mentoring, and delivering premier service to policyholders

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; JD, advanced degree, or professional designations preferred.
• 5+ years of casualty claims experience with emphasis on general liability.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
• Data-driven mindset using claim management tools (PowerBI).
• Leadership experience supervising claims professionals is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of six primary casualty claims professionals.
• Oversee all aspects of the primary casualty claims process for timely and equitable resolutions.
• Review and authorize settlements beyond adjuster authority; ensure proper reserving practices.
• Analyze loss trends and provide regular management reports on outcomes and performance.
• Collaborate with underwriting, risk management, legal, and other departments.
• Develop and update claims policies and procedures with best practices.
• Handle escalated or complex claims, represent in mediations and with reinsurers.
• Foster a customer-focused culture and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Contribute to strategic initiatives, including technology enhancements.
• Participate in recruitment and onboarding of new team members.
