Job summary

Sompo International is seeking an Assistant Vice President for the Large Property team, based in Chicago, IL. This role supports the Industry Practice and focuses on underwriting complex accounts across real estate, hospitality, financial institutions and professional services.

You will drive submission activity, review risk acceptability, and price risks using sophisticated models, while maintaining strong relationships with insureds, agents and brokers nationwide.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8+ years of underwriting/insurance experience.
• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Experience with large brokerage houses, agents and specialty retailers.
• Experience underwriting real estate, hospitality, financial institutions, professional services and technical risks.
• Established underwriting, quoting, and binding track record of profitable business.
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with insureds, agents and brokers.
• Strong negotiation skills and team-oriented approach.
• Strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Drive acceptable submission activity and determine risk acceptability per Sompo guidelines.
• Review applications and financial requirements to determine risk acceptability.
• Understand pricing components and rating methodologies and price risks accordingly.
• Utilize underwriting tools to ensure guidelines are followed and files documented.
• Conduct thorough account reviews and document underwriting decisions and declinations.
• Manage and communicate adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, and requirements.
• Keep up-to-date with state regulations and pricing models (guaranteed cost, captives, SIRs, deductibles).
• Collaborate with brokers and agents to maintain strong relationships across regional and national levels.
