Job summary

Sompo International is seeking a Senior Underwriter to join the Large Property team supporting the Industry Practice. This role is based in Chicago or Boston and involves collaboration across specialty teams.

You will review submissions, price risk, and apply underwriting guidelines using advanced tools. A 5+ year underwriting track record and a Bachelor’s degree are preferred for candidates.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of underwriting/insurance experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Experience with large brokerage houses, agents and specialty retailers.
• Underwriting real estate, hospitality, financial institutions, professional services and technical risks.
• Proven track record of profitable business and strong client relationships.
• Strong negotiation skills and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Drive acceptable submission activity and determine risk acceptability per Sompo guidelines.
• Review applications and financials to assess risk acceptability.
• Price risk based on financial and competitive analysis.
• Use underwriting tools and knowledge to follow guidelines.
• Prepare analyses for adverse decisions, rate appeals and declinations.
• Maintain current knowledge of regulations and pricing models.
