Job summary

Nationwide is seeking an AVP, Casualty Underwriting Performance in the U.S. market. You will guide enterprise underwriting philosophy, set strategic direction for casualty, and collaborate with pricing, reinsurance, and claims teams to drive profitability and risk management.

You will lead Technical Directors and the broader underwriting talent, influence senior leadership and external partners, and oversee a cross-functional underwriting function across multiple casualty lines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
• Post-graduate business studies preferred.
• Designations such as CPCU, ARM are desirable.
• Typically 10–25 years of commercial/E&S casualty underwriting experience.
• At least five years of leadership experience managing underwriting leaders.

Responsibilities

• Set enterprise underwriting philosophy and strategic direction for the casualty portfolio.
• Drive market trend leadership on casualty pricing, coverage, limits/attachment, and appetite.
• Develop a strategic roadmap identifying market disruptors and translate into capabilities.
• Engage with reinsurance brokers, reinsurers, and external markets to benchmark performance.
• Collaborate with Pricing to manage pricing sophistication, modeling, and exposure.
• Lead reviews and actions to improve performance across product lines.
• Coach and develop Technical Directors and underwriting leaders.
